WHO WE ARE

Behavioral Health Innovations was established to address disparities in substance use disorder and mental health treatment and outcomes by working with communities to develop, test, implement, and disseminate community-driven interventions to improve the lives of individuals living with substance use disorders and mental illness

Our research team consists of individuals from diverse backgrounds and research disciplines, including psychology, social work, prevention science, and neuroscience. Our research is rooted in community partnerships. Through these partners, our research includes projects focused on novel approaches for the treatment of alcohol use disorder and co-occurring disorders, treatment and prevention of opioid use in rural communities, culturally appropriate treatments for substance use disorders among American Indian and Alaska Native communities, and innovative approaches for the treatment of first episode psychosis.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to develop, test, implement, and disseminate interventions to improve the lives of individuals living with substance use disorders and mental illness and their communities.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to direct transformational community-driven research in substance use and mental health interventions among racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities. We envision a world in which feasible, culturally appropriate, and sustainable interventions enable equitable access to care and outcomes for all.

OUR VALUES

EQUITY

  • We pursue and promote feasible, culturally appropriate, and sustainable interventions for health disparities populations with substance use disorders and mental illness.

  • We promote equitable access to effective interventions for people living with substance use disorders and mental illness.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

  • Our research is rooted in community partnerships and we value our relationships with community partners.

  • We support shared decision making, collaboration, and community self-determination.

RECIPROCITY

  • We celebrate diverse worldviews and value all forms of knowledge shared between community partners and university researchers.

  • Our research outcomes are translated back to the community.

RESPECT

  • We respect the knowledge, expertise, and cultural traditions that our community partners bring to the research process.

TRUST

  • Through our values of community partnership and reciprocity, our research supports communities in a safe, reliable, ethical, and empowered manner.
